Scott Schoettgen (pronounced Shotgun) is a Former football player in the Arena Football League, now working with BEYOND-Study Abroad for Student Athletes. His alma mater, Willamette University, has a saying "not unto ourselves alone are we born." He enjoys the responsibility of upholding that motto.

I grew up an athlete and ended up competing at a high level in football and basketball. To me sports provide great community involvement, a great relationship with the world around me, and a tremendous understanding of my own body. Recently I have begun working with an international sports program called Beyond Study Abroad with a mission of connecting the world through sports. Even when people don't share the same native language, sports provide a universal language of expression and camaraderie.
